Redefining Heritage

01

This Grade II Listed building is one of two that once served Lord Beaverbrook's Surrey Hills home, built in the late 19th C. In separate ownership for many decades, the house had been poorly extended and was in a state of disrepair.

The architectural driver was to restore the original lodge in its retaining wall 'belvedere', so it is read as far as possible as it would have been viewed in its original Victorian setting. The new lower and contemporary glass sided pavillion is out of sight from above, but providing the accommodation needed for a family, with a new kitchen living space and bedroom suite in spilling out onto the new lower garden.

The lower pavilion is hidden from the upper terrace.
